WORD OF ADVICE: If you know how to build a website, hire somebody else.
One of the skills I’ve developed over the years is the ability to build a halfway decent website. I’ve built a few for clients and friends with pretty good results. Naturally, when it came time to build a site for ProWire, I set out to do it myself. That was almost a year ago.
During that time, I’ve gotten about 80% done, only to scrap the whole thing and start over. I’ve gone through about four different re-designs. I hate to admit it, but I’m kind of a perfectionist, so I have a bad habit of looking at the nearly completed sight and saying “That sucks” after which I ultimately scrap the whole thing and start over.
I guess there’s nothing wrong with being picky, but I have a very busy schedule so finding time to work on this site was almost impossible. Like most entrepreneurs, I didn’t see the need to spend money on a service that I could do myself, but in retrospect, I’d love to get back all that time I wasted.
In the end, I think the site turned out pretty good. There are still a lot of improvements I’d like to make, but that’ll come later. The important thing is that we now have a platform for showcasing our services and a better way for people to get in touch with us. Feel free to browse around and if you have any suggestions on improvements, let me know.
